Now touch the probes the opposite way. The meter should now show the opposite of the first test. As long as the two tests give opposite readings the diode is O.K. If the readings are the same either way, replace the diode. If the diode is defective the battery will not be charged or it will be drawn down. The diode has to be replaced with the same type diode.
